The Childcare Centre was opened in January 2013 because of the recognized need by the BCIT community for childcare services on the BCIT Burnaby campus. In particular, it was recognized that those families with young children whose parents were striving to educate themselves, would not be able to attend the excellent educational opportunities provided by BCIT unless they could have childminding support for their young children. Thus the students of the day, through their Student Association, and in collaboration with the leadership team of BCIT, pushed for and supported the construction and operation of the Childcare centre with support from their student fees. As such, placement priority is given to the BCIT Students, Faculty and Staff, however, as space permits, all families from the greater community are welcome and once enrolled, are not displaced by the enrollment needs of the members of the BCIT community.

The BCITSA Childcare Centre strives to promote your child’s development emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually. We believe each child has the right to learn at their own pace in a safe, secure, and encouraging environment. Our daycare offers a play-based program, featuring fun ways for the children to learn math, science, language, music, and art. We’re located on the beautiful BCIT campus alongside the picturesque Guichon Creek, and we offer a fully fenced and landscaped play area which includes an outdoor sandbox, climbing wall, slide, bike track, and plenty of covered areas for rainy days.

18-36 Months
Nominal SA Childcare Fee $1007 $1498
Less BC Government Subsidy (545)

(900)

Net Fee Paid $462

$598

As long as the BC Government is providing a childcare fee subsidy in the form of the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI), children under 36 months will have the childcare fee reduced by $900 per month and children over 36 months will have the fee reduced by $545 per month.

As of December 1, 2022, the BC Government has changed the CCFRI amount so that children under 36 months will have the fee reduced by $900 per month, and children over 36 months in our 3-5 centre will have the fee reduced by $545 per month. In the infrequent circumstance where the new CCFRI amount would reduce the fee to below $200 per month, the BC government has directed Childcare providers to have a minimum fee of $200 per month as this aligns with the BC Government policy of $10 per day Childcare. For parents who need additional help covering the costs of child care, extra support continues to be available through the Province’s Affordable Child Care Benefit. The new fee reductions and the Affordable Child Care Benefit work together to lower the costs of childcare fees for families and can be “stacked” to maximize the amount of savings. Please note, that eligibility and rates available under the Affordable Child Care Benefit are not changing. For more information please go to How to Access Child Care – Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca).
